These days, our smart phones are always with us. For this reason, our phone can become a great tool for creating mosaics. I've discovered 3 applications that came with my phone that I like to use and would like to share with you. I'm sure there are lots more, so if you found some you use, please share with me!
I use Notes for recording details such as materials I've used in a particular project, suppliers I use for certain supplies, adhesives I use, tile colors (so I can purchase the right ones again), grout colors, etc.
You don't have to type your notes either, just dictate into Notes using the little microphone icon next to the space bar. If you are dictating a list, just say "New Line" after each item and it will automatically record the next item on the next line. This is so much easier than typing.
Using the timer on your clock enables you to know how much time you spent on a project. You'll also get a better feel for how long it takes you to perform certain tasks. This is essential in pricing work.
Also, if you are working on a commission, it is very important to know how long you worked on it for your client. Then just record your time in the Notes application as you go along and total it at the end of the project.
Use your Camera to take and record progress photos of your projects. This can be important for commissions and just for fun too.
When you see something that inspires you, take a picture of it so you can refer back to it at a later date when you need that inspiration.
Another good use for your phone's camera is to take a picture of your work, then look at the picture to see if anything needs to be adjusted or changed. Sometimes looking at a picture of my work, helps me see it in a different way so I can make necessary changes before it's too difficult to.
Photograph receipts that you can then email to your client for reimbursement or keep for your own business records.
As I mentioned above, let me know what apps are helpful for you and your creative process – I'm always wanting to learn and share!
